Adult Ballet Barre
An Interview with Susan
Susan O'Neill is a full-time working mum of two based in County Dublin and a regular Ballet Barre class attendee.
When did your passion for Classical Ballet begin?
I used to do ballet when I was younger -I always loved it but inevitably gave it up in my teens. Then I signed up for Maria’s class just before my 40th birthday and have barely missed a class since.
What are you getting out of the weekly workouts?
It’s a brilliant workout -combining strength, flexibility and cardio with great music. A few ballet classes with Maria has more impact than months at the gym.
How does the adult body cope with the demands of Ballet technique and the more challenging routines?
Maria is the best kind of teacher in that she manages to get more out of you than you thought possible. It is definitely physically challenging but I can see improvements week on week which is great.
What do you enjoy the most in an adult Ballet class?
From barre work to exercise balls and weights to centre work - every class is different and I never know quite what to expect! The hour absolutely flies by which makes a nice change from the usual clock-watching in the gym.
Who would you recommend a BalletBarre class to?
For me the hardest bit was signing up for the class in the first place but I’m so glad I did. If you are looking for a really good workout that will keep you coming back week after week, I couldn’t recommend this class more.
